School Radio/Podcasting
The thought of having a School Radio show is exciting.
Software such as Audacity would be used to record and edit the children's voices. I have experimented to Audacity and the results of which can be found here
Children would be encouraged to plan, research, write, speak and listen.
Podcasts or a Radio show could be in response to a topic they are studying and be the culmination of the half term's work. It is often tied in with Literacy. This is certainly a project for Upper Key Stage 2 children as it would involve extensive planning and preparation. This kind of project would encourage team work skills as each child will have a different role which will contribute to the final product. Children take much pride in their work and especially if other people were to listen to it and so there would be lots of rehearsals needed.
Would I use this in the classroom?
I really like the idea of recording the children and for them to produce a podcast that showcases their knowledge and skills. It is a technique I will try on FPP; record the children are their investigations in Science. However, I would shy away from creating a radio station on FPP but would look into implementing a radio station as an extra-curricular activity when I am in my first job.
