Time Lapse Photography
In Year 2 the children were studying the life cycle of a plant. They looked at what plants needed to grow and the different parts of a plant. We investigated water and nutrients. In pairs they each had a seed and they had to make it grow, ensuring they were giving the plant everything it required.
Every 3 days I took a photograph of one of the plants and then uploaded it onto the computer. The class would then compare and contrast from the previous photo. Using photographs they could easily see the growth of their plants. The slide show to the side shows a selection of the photographs which displays the growth of their broad bean seeds. |
Pros:
- Clear visual way of showing the growth of plants
- Children have ownership over their learning because it is their plants that were being displayed on the Interactive Whiteboard
Cons:
- Have to ensure photography is consistent so as to not miss out one of the growth stages.
Could this be used in the future?
To map anything that shows a process- in art the process of making a clay pot. Photos could be taken of the various stages to show the end product. Children can use this to track their own success or the teacher could use this to show the various steps to success.
